Pink is the colour of the 111th US Open. On the first day, the Spanish pair of Alvaro Quiros and Miguel Angel Jimenez took to the course looking peachy. Yesterday, American Bo Van Pelt and England's Robert Dinwiddie followed suit to keep up with the trend.
Amateur Of The Day
American Patrick Cantlay made up for a disappointing first round by shooting a four-under-par 67 to sit on level par for the tournament. The teenager's outstanding second round came despite a double bogey at the par-four fourth as he went on to record six birdies.
Caught In A Trap
After finishing round one 12 over, things could only get better for American Michael Barbosa (above). The 28-year-old amateur's 83 included 11 bogeys and a double bogey. Yesterday he started with a birdie – but come the halfway stage had plummeted to 17 over.
Shot Of The Day
Rory McIlroy's eagle on the par-four eighth saw the 22-year-old Ulsterman pitch from 113 yards and spin the ball 30 feet, back into the middle of the cup. The shot saw him become the fourth player in US Open history to reach 10 under at the halfway stage.
