Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 22-year-old fired a five-under-par 66 at Damai Indah Golf and Country Club to take a share of the clubhouse lead with an eight-under-par 134 when darkness ended play with 32 players yet to complete their second rounds. Mikko Ilonen, of Finland, was tied with Tampion with one hole to play. Both held a three-stroke lead over their closest challengers - a group of four including the South Koreans Nam Young-woo and Suk Jong Yul, Thailand's Chapchai Nirat and Gaurav Ghei of India.
Tampion turned professional late last year and earned his card after coming through all three stages of the European Tour qualifying school.
"I am having a ball," the Melbourne-born player said. "I turned professional in November, and ... I am looking forward to some successful years to come. I have made two of the three cuts I have played and finished around 50th. I hope I can go out at the weekend and improve on that."
England's Gareth Davies was the leading Briton on four under, earning him a tie for seventh place alongside Australia's Steve Strange and Sweden's Alexander Noren. Thursday's overnight leader Thailand's Chawalit Plaphol shot a three-over 74 to drop to three under. Defending champion Simon Dyson is one under after a 71.
