A European Tour golfer has become the latest to take aim at Piers Morgan following the fallout from his criticism of the royal family.

Morgan stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning following a heated discussion with his colleague, Alex Beresford, about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's TV interview with Oprah Winfrey.

It was then announced later on Tuesday that Morgan had left the show.

Two-time European Tour winner and world number 169 Eddie Pepperell was quick to poke fun at the day's events.

"I’d quite like to play with Piers Morgan in the Alfred Dunhill Links this year please,” he tweeted. “We both like to drink, we’re both pretty active on Twitter. And we both like to walk off when things aren’t going well."

Pepperell infamously walked off the course at the 2019 Turkish Open and was subsequently disqualified from the tournament.

ITV announced the presenter and journalist was leaving the news programme on Tuesday evening.

A statement released by ITV said: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Following the announcement, Morgan tweeted: "Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight.

"He'd have told me to do exactly the same thing."

During Tuesday's programme, weather presenter Beresford defended Harry and Meghan during his discussion with Morgan.

He told the presenter: "I understand you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off.

"She's entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has but yet you continue to trash her."

Morgan's comments on Meghan's mental health on Monday's episode prompted Ofcom to investigate after it received more than 41,000 complaints about his remarks.
