From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Becky Morgan put herself in the reckoning for a first professional victory as she continued her fine run of form with a second-round 66 at the LPGA Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey, at the weekend.

The Welsh 28-year-old had a handful of birdies in a flawless round to finish on eight-under with 134, alongside England's Joanne Morley, at just two shots behind the leader Angela Stanford, of the United States. Morley belied her lowly standing of No 101 in the LPGA rankings by repeating her opening round of 67 to put herself in contention for a first victory in America to set alongside her two German Open titles.

But it was a disappointing day for Laura Davies, who had opened with a 68 and got to five under after two birdies in the first three holes. She slipped back with five bogeys, and a 74 left her 10 off the pace. Annika Sorenstam, the world No 1, shot 66 for an overall total of 136.

In Memphis, rookie Richard Johnson carded a two-under-par 69 to take a one-shot lead over David Toms after the third round of the St Jude Classic.

The 26-year-old Swede, who had never played in a PGA Tour event before finishing 11th at last year's qualifying tournament, completed 54 holes at 14 under on 199 at the TPC at Southwind.

Tim Herron, Lee Janzen, David Peoples and Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson tied for third on 201.John Huston, who shared the second-round lead with Johnson, struggled to a two-over 73 and dropped into a nine-way tie for eighth on 203.
