Phil Mickelson will make his return to competitive action at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, next week.

The world No 2 has not played since tying for second place at the US Open at Bethpage last month.

During his time away from the game, his wife, Amy, and his mother, Mary, have both been treated for breast cancer. Amy underwent surgery in Houston on 1 July while Mickelson's mother was operated on 10 days later at the same hospital. Both are reported to have responded well to treatment.
