Golf Trevino to the fore
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Trevino to the fore
The American veteran Lee Trevino holds a four-stroke lead in the $45,000 Australian PGA Seniors golf championship after a two-under-par 70 in Canberra yesterday. Trevino has a three-round total of five-under-par 211 over the Gold Creek Country Club course. Australia's Terry Gale, who double- bogeyed the 18th hole, is Trevino's nearest rival at 207 after shooting a 73 yesterday. Japan's Kenichi Tsurumoto is in third place after a 74 yesterday and is at even-par 216. Trevino said it was the worst he had played over the three days. "I feel great but my ball striking wasn't good," he said. "My putter saved me." He knocked in a 35-footer for a birdie at the 13th. "I'm going to make room on my pillow for my putter tonight - I might even sleep on the floor," added Trevino, who has been battling spasms in his right shoulder.
