The England Under-16 team yesterday beat their Italian counterparts 4-2 in the annual international at Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, with Scott Godfrey (St Enodoc) and David Porter (West Herts) gaining two victories each. England won the morning foursomes 2-0, while the afternoon singles were shared 2-2.
Retief Goosen, of South Africa, led from start to finish in the French Open at the weekend, winning pounds 100,000 to move up 10 places into third place on the European money list. Goosen, who has now earned pounds 254,913 this year, pushed his compatriot Ernie Els down to fourth place on the list with pounds 243,467. Colin Montgomerie of Scotland, who has topped the money list for the past four years, stayed in contention to win his fifth title after sharing 11th place in France. He won pounds 10,320 and is sixth on the order of merit with pounds 216,004.
