Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. My tee shot was only three paces off the edge of the fairway and I never moved the ball with my second shot. I don't know what happened to it. Either the club went right underneath it or it never reached the ball. I'm going to have to classify it as an air shot.
Greg Norman on his seven at the 17th in
yesterday's second round.
That's not right.
Woman scorer to Norman after his triple-bogey at the 17th.
I'm very, very happy to be here. I play very well golf. I'm hitting very hard and very well the ball.
Angel Cabrera following his 69 in the second round.
I'm in very good shape. I'm looking pretty good. This golf course is going to penalise you whether you hit good shots or bad. There's nothing you can do about that. It's just the way it is.
Tiger Woods.
It's very difficult using a long putter in the wind. I've got no confidence with the other one so I'll just have to keep bashing away with this one.
Ian Woosnam, on his pendulum putter.
A bad day is when the birds are walking. The locals play in these conditions all the time.
Member of the Carnoustie groundstaff.
The whole thing was just fantastic. I can't wait to play in it.
Simon Dyson, Yorkshire amateur who caddied for his England team-mate Luke Donald.
It was a great experience. I have a different view from the professionals because I'm not playing for a living.
The 21-year-old English amateur Donald, playing in his first professional tournament.
I'm glad it's over. It was an endurance test over the last two days.
Davis Love, following two rounds of 74.
It's only Friday. But this will make big headlines in France and teach them that this is really one of the most popular games in the world. If I win, it will be enormous.
Jean Van de Velde after his second-round 68.
I'm out of the tournament now and I'm looking forward to the USPGA Championship. I just didn't play very well, simple as that. This is gone now. I'm just playing for numbers unfortunately. I got a great draw and I didn't capitalise on it. The wind didn't spring up until the ninth hole and by that stage I was three over and struggling.
Colin Montgomerie (above) after a 76 left him at eight over par for the Championship.
Anybody playing well over the weekend can win it. It's a very hard course, very difficult but fair. I don't know how Monty can say he's out of it at eight over. I don't think that at all.
Lee Westwood, who is at nine over par for the tournament.
I haven't shot in the seventies all week.
David Frost, who has scored 80 and 69.
Monty is the best player in Europe by far and if he plays as he's capable of doing he's still got a great shot at it.
Brian Watts, Open runner-up last year.
You can't judge your game on this course. Good shots end up in the hay, bad shots end up on the green. You just don't know what's going to happen. I think my game's OK but I really couldn't tell you. I've accepted it and got on with it and that approach for me has produced a score of 154.
David Duval.
It could be worse. You could be in Kosovo.
Caddie Martin Rowley to his employer, Jeremy Robinson.
I need a break, you need a break, go and have a coffee.
Montgomerie to a group of photographers.
I'm looking forward now to Medinah [the venue for the US PGA Championship next month.]
Mongomerie.
Did he say Medinah or me dinner?
