Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

BRITAIN'S Lora Fairclough completed a closing round of 70 to achieve her first European Tour victory in the IBM Open here yesterday, writes John Bolton from Stockholm.

Fairclough, 23, from Lancashire, collected a pounds 15,000 prize when her 12-under-par aggregate of 280 left her five strokes clear of Australian Corinne Dibnah with Sweden's Carin Hjalmarsson one stroke further behind.

Eight days earlier, Fairclough had been disqualified after signing for a wrong score in the second round of the British Open. 'It made me get my act together and it now feels so good to win.' she said.

In 72 holes, Fairclough only exceeded par three times and from the 12th hole in the first round started an amazing run of 41 consecutive holes without a bogey.

It was in Saturday's third round of 67 that Fairclough broke loose, with a staggering six birdies in a row from the eighth, where she holed a putt of 12 feet for her two.
