Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Great Britain and Ireland trailed the United States 5-4 at the halfway stage of the 28th Curtis Cup in Chattanooga, Tennessee, after splitting the afternoon foursomes. The Anglo-Scottish pairing of Kirsty Speak and Mhairi McKay were beaten 7 and 5 by Carole Semple Thompson and Emilee Klein, but England's Julie Hall and Lisa Walton cancelled that out with a 6 and 5 trouncing of Wendy Kaupp and Ellen Port. In a nail-biting finish to the foursomes, the Scots Catriona Matthew and Janice Moodie were two up on Jill McGill and Sarah Ingram with four holes to play. It seemed the teams would start today's second and final day level, but McGill and Ingram escaped with a half at the 15th after sending their approach into the water and they then wiped out the Scots' lead by birdieing the 16th and 17th. Britain's Laura Davies shot a 69 to move into a three-stroke lead after three rounds of the Irish Holidays Open in Dublin, but she could have had her 30th career victory in the bag already. After five birdies and an eagle, she dumped her second shot to the last in the lake short of the green and had a double-bogey six.
