WWE superstar Wade Barrett has continued his feud with Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney, visiting Old Trafford in search of his new rival.

In a superb turn on Monday Night Raw in Manchester, the pair - who have enjoyed a mock rivalry since February after Barrett called Rooney out over a 'dive' against his beloved Preston North End - exchanged words before Rooney delivered a slap that knocked Barrett to the ground.

On Tuesday morning Barrett claimed that Rooney had landed a "cheap shot" on him and went to Old Trafford to search for the 30-year-old.

"I'm here for a little payback," the wrestler said before heading inside.

Walking up to a mural and spotting Rooney front and centre, Barrett saysL "Here he is, tough guy himself. Wants a piece of me? Wants a piece of the big man?" before throwing an elbow into the picture.

He then heads to the dressing room and sits in Rooney's seat, before facing the camera.

"Wayne, you want to come to my house and take cheap shots at me? Well I'm here at your house now and where are you?

"I think you're in hiding. The second you show up, believe me, you're getting one of these (an elbow) right between the eyes.

"BOOM!"

Barrett also appeared on ESPN to speak about the incident.

"I'm a huge soccer fan, I have been all my life," he said.

"[Rooney] is England's highest goal scorer of all time, he's just broken Bobby Charlton's record. It was a huge thrill to have him in the audience.

"Vut for whatever reason he decides to take a swing at someone like me - I'm a king, I don't know what he's playing at.

"In 13 years of being a wrestler I've never had a member of the audience take a swing at me, for whatever reason he's done that.

"And of all people, Wayne Rooney, England's No 1 player. Unbelievable stuff."
