Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

"We have made our protest. The situation is far from satisfactory but we are resigned to it. We must now forget it and go out and win," said the Surbiton manager, Lee Pettifer, referring to the decision of Britain's performance director, Chris Spice, that the players returning from the Olympics must rest and miss the first five games of the League season.

As a result Surbiton will be missing David Luckes, who played a total of six minutes in Sydney, Brett Garrard and their new signings Billy Waugh and James Wallis for the visit of Old Loughtonians.

The Surrey side welcome back their South African goalscorer Greg Nichol against the Old Boys, who will be without their new signing Peter Milkovich, the Canada captain in Sydney who is not coming until next month.

The arrival of Loughborough Students' in the Premier Division will be watched with great interest. They visit Teddington having had a string of impressive results in their warm-up games, but much will rest on the performance of their player-coach Jason Lee and Scotland's David Ralph. Teddington, under their new coach Grant Edwards, will have Jason Laslett in their line-up.

Reading, at home to Bournville, will include the New Zealand international Simon Towns in their squad.
