Semple plots Glorious future
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kelburne, trained in Carluke, Lanarkshire, by Semple, took the Happy Valley Handicap by a length and three-quarters. But the four-year-old is not being allowed any respite because he is now an intended runner at Glorious Goodwood tomorrow, in the New Paddock Handicap.
"He gets a penalty but Mick [Kinane, yesterday's winning rider] said that he had a couple of lengths in hand, so he will stay the night here and I'll take him to Goodwood tomorrow," said Semple.
Another Goodwood-bound horse is Smokin Beau, who landed Europe's richest five-furlong handicap at Ascot yesterday at 20-1 for the 350 members of the syndicate, Turf 2000. It was the biggest success of John Cullinan's training career. Smokin Beau is now being aimed at the six-furlong Stewards' Cup on Saturday.
Cullinan trains just 15 horses near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Smokin Beau incurs a 5lb penalty for the Goodwood sprint, for which he is now quoted at 33-1.
