Your support makes all the difference.The troubled British challenger for the America’s Cup, Team Origin, had the worst possible to start to the Louis Vuitton Trophy regatta in La Maddalena, Sardinia, losing its opening match against the French team Aleph, skippered by Bertrand Pace.
In light conditions, and having taken the lead, Origin, skippered by Ben Ainslie, once again created its own downfall by poor sail handling to lose eventually by 68 seconds. The only other race of the day, an all-Italian affair, went easily to the Mascalzone Latino challenger of record crew against local blue-bloods Azzurra.
On Germany’s Lake Constanz Britain’s former world champion Ian Williams made the quarter final of the world match race tour event, where his opponent will be Jesper Radich of Denmark. The other two semi-final places will be contested between two Australian, Torvar Mirsky and Peter Gilmour and New Zealand’s Adam Minoprio against Sweden’s Magnus Holmberg.
Double round robin winner Mathieu Richard of France automatically wins the fourth place.
