Jean-Pierre Dick wins Barcelona race

Two races, two co-skippers and two wins in the Barcelona two-handed round the world race were notched up today by Frenchman Jean-Pierre Dick. In 2007-08 he won with Irishman Damian Foxall. This time he was with top compatriot Loick Peyron.

Britain’s Dee Caffari, with Spanish co-skipper Anna Corbella, is lying sixth and expected to finish over the weekend, with Alex Thomson’s damage-affected Hugo Boss lying seventh, sailed by Wouter Verbraak and Andy Meiklejohn.

Dick and Peyron, who is attempting with brother Bruno to put an America’s Cup challenge together, took 93 days 22hrs 20min 36secto complete the course and set, on the way, a new 24-hour record their class of Open 60 of 506.33 miles.

They lost 63 hours stopping for repairs in Brazil and New Zealand. “The joint experience of both of us as skippers and individuals was the key to winning,” said Dick.

“It has been exceptional,” said Peyron, second in his earlier two round the world races. “It was a fantastic experience and it is a fabulous feeling to finish and finish so well.”
