Britons dominate leaderboard in Weymouth
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

But a northerly wind occasionally hitting gale force suited the home competitors as Scott Giles and Ed Wright ended the day first and third in the Finn singlehander, 2008 gold medallists Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson, with two firsts and a second, lead the Star class, Nick Thompson is fourth in the Laser, Bryony Shaw is second in the windsurfer, and Nic Asher and Elliot Willis are third in the 470 dinghy.
More strong wind is forecast for the first half of tomorrow as organisers try to catch up for the 49ers, all the paralympic classes, and the women match racers.
In Cartagena, racing was abandoned on the first day of the final regatta of the Audi MedCup series as flukey wind and rain dominated proceedings.
In London tomorrow it is hoped that British America’s challenger Team Origin will confirm its inclusion in the upcoming Louis Vuitton World Series, starting in Nice in November.
