Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Widnes have taken their new signings for their return to Super League next season into double figures with the recruitment of the Warrington hooker, Jon Clarke. The 32-year-old former Wigan player, who won two Great Britain caps in 2007, has agreed a two-year contract. That makes him the tenth newcomer at a club which has already told 13 current players that they are not wanted in the elite competition next year.
Clarke has played 260 times for the Wolves and hopes to bow out at the end of this, his testimonial year, with a Grand Final appearance. "I've had ten fantastic years at Warrington, but the time has come for the next chapter," he said.
Widnes have failed, however, in their inquiry for Castleford's Greg Eden, who is joining Huddersfield on a three-year deal.
Craig Fitzgibbon looks to have played his last game for Hull, after suffering a broken ankle. The 34-year-old Kangaroo forward is out of contract at the end of this season.
