Graham Steadman, the Castleford coach, has put in an official complaint to the Rugby League about the refereeing of Steve Ganson in his side's defeat by Bradford on Sunday. Ganson sent off Bradford's Leon Pryce for a late, high tackle, but also penalised Castleford repeatedly, especially for dissent.
"Several senior players in our team told me that he didn't want to listen when they asked him about decisions," Steadman said. "Ryan Hudson was our acting captain with Danny Orr and Mitch Healey off the field and every time he questioned a decision he was penalised."
Steadman has taken his concerns to the RFL's technical executive, Stuart Cummings, and has also suggested that the practice of referees training with clubs should be revived. "That way, we used to understand each other better," he said.
St Helens's Tommy Martyn, who recently returned after a broken arm, took a blow on the same bone against Wakefield on Friday night and could need a plate inserting. That would rule him out for up to two months.
Two players in the lower divisions suffered broken bones in their necks at the weekend. Featherstone's Robin Jowitt was kept in hospital after his side's game at Leigh and will be out indefinitely. South London Storm's scrum-half, Bobby Hutton, was the victim of a similar injury in the National League Three fixture against Bradford Dudley Hill.
