Hull KR have dismissed the Rugby League's apology for the decision that cost them their Magic Weekend clash with bitter rivals Hull as "wholly inadequate".

Steve Ganson has admitted in his capacity as video referee that he allowed a late winning try by Chris Green, which should have been ruled out for offside. Ganson, who has recently and embarrassingly been put in charge of coaching referees, effectively making him their boss, has apologised to Rovers for the error that condemned them to a 22-16 defeat.

"Steve has been in contact with Hull KR and offered his apologies," said the RFL's head of match officials, Jon Sharp.

However, Rovers'chairman, Neil Hudgell, has called the RFL's stance "empty and tokenistic and an insult to our fans".

"It was the single worst decision in 10 years of rugby league," he said. Ganson was stood down from video refereeing duties.

On the pitch, the Huddersfield Giants consolidated second place with a commanding 36-6 win over Bradford. Two tries from Dale Ferguson, Scott Grix, Larne Patrick, Shaun Lunt and Brett Ferres did the damage for the Giants.

A second try of the match from Jordan James brought Salford a late 28-22 win over Widnes that lifts them off the foot of the table.

Warrington were too strong for St Helens, winning 48-22, while Castleford beat St Helens 48-22 and Catalan Dragons triumphed 46-18 over the London Broncos.
