From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The sides were level early in the second half, but the Tigers pulled away with tries from Jonathan Walker, Justin Carney – his second of the match – and Jordan Tansey. Liam Salter got two for the Robins.
Last year's surprise successes, Wakefield, made it two wins in a row, following up their win over Widnes with a convincing 30-12 result against the faltering Catalan Dragons. Peter Fox and captain Danny Kirmond got two tries each for the Wildcats, while the French international back-rower, Kevin Larroyer, claimed a pair for the lacklustre Dragons.
Widnes had one of their best wins since re-entering Super League – 35-28 at troubled St Helens. Young full-back Jack Owens was the Vikings' star, with two tries and four goals. Alarm bells are ringing at Saints, however, where five defeats in a row in all competitions means a crisis.
League leaders Wigan were entirely untroubled by Salford, coasting past them by 46-6, with Sam Tomkins and Josh Charnley both scoring two tries to make it a miserable return for their former coach, Brian Noble.
Leeds were equally convincing victors at Bradford, getting away to a spectacular start and eventually winning 42-22, with Carl Ablett claiming two of their seven tries.
Kevin Sinfield celebrated his 450th appearance for the Rhinos by kicking all seven conversions.
Gareth Ellis finally made his delayed debut for Hull, coming safely through a comfortable 48-12 win over the London Broncos. Tom Briscoe and Ben Crookes both crossed twice for Hull.
