Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Huddersfield stayed top of the Super League after a full Easter Monday programme, beating Hull 22-4 at the Galpharm Stadium. The Giants scored three tries in the last 20 minutes of a hard-fought match, through Eorl Crabtree, Luke Robinson and Joe Wardle, to end Hull's winning run at six matches. Danny Brough kicked five goals for Huddersfield and Danny Tickle kicked two for Hull.

Wigan are second in the table, on points difference from the Catalan Dragons. The Warriors beat Wakefield 36-6 at the DW Stadium, Josh Charnley and Darrell Goulding scoring two tries each among seven. Kyle Wood scored Wakefield's try. The Dragons beat Warrington 44-12 in Perpignan, the 38- year-old former Australia forward Steve Menzies scoring two of their eight tries.

In the afternoon's other matches, Leeds beat London Broncos 52-10, Bradford won 38-4 at Widnes, St Helens won away at Castleford, 18-12, and Salford lost 18-10 at home to Hull KR.

A spokesman for the Rugby Football League yesterday responded to recent criticism from clubs over the sport's finances and organisation, saying: "The governing body is working hard to help all member clubs through what are difficult economic conditions for all businesses."
