Players expected to stay with York
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

York's players were meeting last night to decide whether to remain with the club while it tries to find someone to bail it out of its potentially fatal crisis.
The club's directors decided to close it down this week, but have now agreed to try until next Tuesday to find a new owner with around £100,000 to pay off its debts and steer it through the rest of this season.
The players met at their scheduled training session last night, with their full-back, Jamie Benn, predicting that they would support the club's efforts. "The players want to stay and play for York," he said. "The feeling is that we want to stay together for as long as possible. Hopefully, we might get a new buyer."
The club's chief executive, Ann Garvey, added: "There isn't much I can tell them. We have two or three people interested, but nothing definite."
The club's supporters are meeting on Sunday to set up a supporters' trust, which could play a role in helping it out of its plight. Swinton, another club with an uncertain future, already has a similar organisation working on its behalf.
Two of Super League's three unbeaten teams meet tonight, when Hull visit St Helens. In tonight's other match, Leeds are unchanged at Warrington.
