North Queensland happy to sign Faumuina
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sione Faumuina, the player who walked out on Harlequins without playing a game for the Super League club, has found a new home with North Queensland. The New Zealand utility player was one of Harlequins' major signings for the coming season, but flew home last month after claiming that his family had failed to settle in London.
That was the latest drama in a career in which he had already been sacked by the New Zealand Warriors after a series of drink-fuelled incidents. Despite that, the North Queensland Cowboys do not believe that signing him on a two-year deal represents a risk.
"As a club, we have prided ourselves on bringing the best out of players over the last few years," said the Cowboys' coach, Graham Murray. "I'm sure Sione will be no exception."
Faumuina helped to make it a bad December for Harlequins, who also lost Solomon Haumono when he decided to concentrate on a boxing career.
Huddersfield's long-serving full-back, Paul Reilly, has confirmed the 2007 season will be his last and that he expects it to be a memorable one. "I can't wait for the season to start and I want to finish on a high," he said.
David Solomona has begun training with his new team-mates at Bradford after being given extra time off in New Zealand to recover from a torn biceps.
