Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After that, he will spend two days a week in Hull, working alongside the club's caretaker-coach, James Webster, until taking over on a full-time basis at the start of August.
"I can't wait to work with a club that has genuine Super League aspirations, not only with the calibre of player I will be working with but also with their future stadium development plans," said the Australian-born Welsh international, who succeeds the sacked Harvey Howard.
Morgan comes from the same Parramatta club that has produced a dynasty of successful coaches and has guided Toulouse into the semis. "He has excellent references from two of the most respected coaches in the game - Tony Smith and Daniel Anderson - and his background is of the highest pedigree," said Rovers' chairman, Neil Hudgell.
St Helens have seven first-teamers injured for tonight's game at home to Hull and will give a debut to either Paul Clough or Matty Smith from their Academy team.
Widnes, who are at Salford for one of the games they have targeted for their Super League survival, have continued to plan on the basis of retaining their status by agreeing a new, one-year contract with their back-rower, Daniel Frame.
Matt Diskin will make his first appearance of the season for Leeds in their match against the London Broncos, being played in Perpignan tomorrow as the Broncos' Brentford home is unavailable. Diskin has not played in the senior side since suffering a knee injury on his Great Britain debut last November, but has come successfully through Academy matches.
Keith Senior will captain the Rhinos in the absence of Kevin Sinfield, who will be out for five weeks after an operation on a dislocated thumb.
