Meyers joins Bulls' forward planning
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Bradford have made their first signing for next season by agreeing a three-year contract with the Brisbane Broncos' Test forward, Brad Meyers.
Meyers is only 24 and, apart from representing Queensland in State of Origin, played four times for Australia in 2001. Since then his stock has fallen slightly and the Broncos have agreed to let him go.
"My decision to join Bradford is based on seizing a unique opportunity right now, an opportunity that quite possibly wouldn't have presented itself in future years," said Meyers, who will be a direct replacement in the back row for Logan Swann, who is joining Warrington.
"Brad's style of play is really suited to the English game," said Wayne Bennett, the Brisbane and Australia coach. "I'm sure he will make the best of the challenges that lie ahead."
Brian Noble, the Bulls' coach, declared himself "delighted we have been able to secure the services of a young player of his class who still has a lot to prove. Brad will be a tremendous addition to our squad."
Chris Caisley, the club's chairman, promised that Meyers would not be the last signing. Bradford have already been linked with Wayne Godwin and Ryan Hudson if Castleford are relegated this weekend.
Gary Mercer, the Castleford coach, has complained about his players being "tapped up", but has conceded that it is inevitable. Players like Tom Saxton and Andy Lynch are likely to leave if Cas go down, as they will do if they fail to beat Wakefield on Saturday.
