"I think it's time to move on," said the Australian, who has been in charge for the last six years. "I've had a great time at Cas and I'm proud of the growth the club has experienced in my time."
Matterson (above) has presided over relegation from Super League, promotion straight back into it and into the end-of-season play-offs. For his replacement, the Tigers are to look to Britain. Brian Noble has the track record and is in a temporary consultant's role at Halifax. Justin Morgan is an Australian, but he has been in England as long as Matterson and his days at Hull KR could be drawing to a close, while John Kear, a Castlefordian, faces an uncertain future at Wakefield.
Cas are seventh in Super League. They have had two boosts in the build-up to tomorrow's game at Wigan. Kirk Dixon, their goal-kicking winger or centre, has agreed a new three-year contract, while Rob Parker has arrived on loan from Salford. The former Bradford and Warrington forward has signed on for an initial month and is likely to make his debut at Wigan.
The experiment of including Toulouse in the Championship has been abandoned. The French club have not been invited next season.
