Leeds sign McKenna on two-year deal

Leeds have signed the Australian international centre Chris McKenna on a two-year contract from next season. The 27-year-old Cronulla threequarter, who scored the opening try in the Kangaroos' 64-10 thrashing of Great Britain last week, will replace the departing Tonie Carroll.

McKenna, who has had two previous spells in England with Sheffield and London, had been linked with a move to Leeds' Super League rivals Hull.

The Queenslander said: "I have always said that it was my intention to return to England at some point of my career and I am keen to do that while I am at the peak of my game." Ironically, his decision to move to Headingley could free up a place for Carroll, who has decided to return to Australia at the end of the season to win back his Queensland place.

Wigan's Test centre Paul Johnson has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The 23-year-old, who has battled back after a shoulder reconstruction and torn knee ligaments, is due to have surgery on Saturday after damaging his wrist in last week's Test defeat to Australia.

The Huddersfield Giants centre Ben Cooper has agreed to a new two-year deal – provided the club gains promotion to Super League.
