From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The ground, whose predecessor last staged a Test in 1997, is to host a double-header on 5 November, with England playing Australia and Wales taking on New Zealand in the Four Nations.
The tournament starts the previous weekend with Australia facing New Zealand at Warrington and England against Wales at Leigh. England play the Kiwis at Hull on 12 November, with Australia against Wales in Wrexham the following day. The final is at Elland Road on 19 November.
Semi Tadulala is to return to his first British club, Wakefield, for the rest of the season. The Fiji winger played for the Wildcats for three years from 2004, before moving on to Bradford and later switching to rugby union. He has recently been released by Leeds Carnegie and has been training with Wakefield.
"He has been doing some conditioning work with us and he is looking very good," said the Trinity coach, John Kear. "We know what we are getting with Semi."
Tadulala is in line to make his second Wakefield debut against St Helens on 10 July. The club also hope to have another overseas player on their books by then, but are not yet ready to reveal his name.
In the meantime, the Rugby League is investigating reports of an intruder on the pitch after Sunday's match against Hull. An elderly woman pushed an in-goal judge in an attempt to get at the referee.
Hull have confirmed the signing of the New Zealand Warriors' scrum-half, Brett Seymour, on a three-year contract. The Australian is Hull's fourth major signing for next season.
Kylie Leuluai has agreed to play one more season for Leeds before retiring. The prop has been with the Rhinos since 2007.
