Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Hull have won the contest to sign the forward Gareth Ellis. The second-rower has agreed a three-year contract when he returns from his stint with Wests Tigers in Australia.
The 30-year-old hinted at one stage that he could join one of his former clubs, Wakefield or Leeds, or Castleford. "I was lucky to have a few clubs interested but I've been listening to Hull, to the ambitions they have got and the prospects they are putting in place for the future," Ellis said.
The Hull coach, Peter Gentle, said: "If we're looking to take this club to another level we need the addition of one or two class players to bring the best out of the quality squad we have in place. We have definitely achieved that with the signing of Gareth."
The Rugby League has agreed a new five year deal with the BBC for Challenge Cup coverage.
