Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

There was another surprise at Wakefield, where Trinity beat the Catalan Dragons 32-22, with Peter Fox, the former England winger, running in two tries.
More shocks came at Bradford, where Salford beat the Bulls 38-18, with Joel Moon passing a fitness test on his wrist and then scoring two tries.
Widnes, meanwhile, achieved only their second win of the season, beating London Broncos 38-30, with Lloyd White scoring two tries and Gareth O'Brien landing seven goals.
Hull went to Castleford and won 42-28, with the former Cas forward, Willie Manu, claiming two of their tries, while Warrington returned to the top spot in dramatic fashion on Friday night.
The Wolves trailed for most of their match at Wigan, but won it 22-20 after their hosts let their composure slip in the last few minutes. Epalahame Lauaki achieved the unwanted distinction of being placed on report twice. First he raised his forearm taking the ball into a tackle, and a follow-up penalty conceded by Paul Prescott allowed Brett Hodgson to boot the equaliser.
Lauaki, signed from Hull this winter, was then pulled up for a spear tackle on Matty Blyth and Hodgson, from 40 metres out, landed the winner.
"If we'd have been a bit more smart, we'd have won that game," said the Wigan coach, Shaun Wane, of his side's second defeat in three matches.
Warrington coach Tony Smith was frustrated by the imperfections in his side's display, but was full of praise their grit and determination.
