Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Dragons raced into a 14-0 lead in the first 20 minutes with tries from stand-off Graham Holroyd and centre P J Solomon. Leigh hit back with a try from Dan Potter before the interval and Robert Smyth and Steve Maden touched down in the second half. But the Dragons withstood some late pressure with Holroyd adding five goals and a drop goal to seal an excellent 19-14 victory.
Whitehaven replaced Leigh at the top with a 26-12 win over Hull Kingston Rovers. Hull never recovered from the sending-off of new captain Jamie Bovill in the eighth minute and Whitehaven took full advantage. Scrum-half Sam Obst scored a brace as they opened up a 23-6 half-time lead.
Batley kept pace with Whitehaven with an eight-try, 44-20 mauling of injury-hit Oldham. Oldham went into a shock 20-0 lead inside the first half-hour with two tries by Lee Marsh and one by Dane Morgan.
But the Bulldogs hit back with tries from Shad Royston (two), Paul Harrison, Bryn Powell (two), Chris Spurr, David Rourke and Ryan Horsley.
