Cas hold fire on Wakefield snub over stadium
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The neighbouring Super League clubs both have plans for new grounds, but Wakefield Council has said it will back only one of the schemes. It recently commissioned a feasibility study on which would serve better as a shared home ground, but Wakefield appear to have short-circuited that process by announcing at half-time in Sunday's game that they are only interested in playing at their own proposed venue at Newmarket.
Cas are committed to their own plans a few miles down the M62 at Glasshoughton. "We think our plan is better and more likely to happen, but were prepared to go along with the study and want to know what is happening with that," said a club spokesman.
Both clubs are on notice that they need new or much-improved grounds to back up next year's applications for Super League licences.
Leeds' prop forward, Luke Burgess, has been given a formal warning by the RFL for a high tackle on Salford's Adam Neal in Sunday's match.
