Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The most heavily punished is Quins' Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook, who has been banned for three games for running in and punching.
His team-mates, David Howell, Rikki Sheriffe and Michael Worrincy, have each been suspended for one match for punching, as has Tony Clubb for a careless high tackle earlier in the game.
Adam Mogg, of the Dragons, gets a one-game ban for punching, but Casey McGuire has escaped with a fine and will be available for the game against Leeds on Saturday that could put the French side top of Super League.
Hull's new scrum-half, James Webster, has until teatime on Friday to get his hands on the British passport that will allow him to play against his former club in the Humberside derby two days later.
The former Hull KR captain was registered as a Hull player before last Friday's Super League deadline, but cannot play for his new team until he receives his passport, because Hull's overseas quota is full.
"James has been told that his paperwork is all in order, so we are still pretty confident that he will be able to make his debut against Rovers," said Hull's spokesman, Richard Tingle.
The Wigan chairman, Ian Lenagan, has predicted that the club's new Australian signing, Tim Smith, will make his debut against St Helens on Friday night. The half-back has not played for almost four months, but Lenagan says he will be "surprised" if Wigan's head coach, Brian Noble, does not select him.
Bradford's Test forward Sam Burgess still does not know whether he needs a shoulder operation that could rule him out of the World Cup. Burgess has had one scan, but it was inconclusive and he could now need another.
