From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A joint training session to help Melbourne Storm prepare for tonight's World Club Challenge against Leeds has cost unlucky Hull the services of yet another key player. Shaun Berrigan strained a biceps passing the ball – a freak injury that could keep him out for a month. The Australian Test centre or hooker has been one of the bright spots for a Hull side who have been without up to eight regulars in the early weeks of the season.

Better news for the Hull coach, Peter Sharp, is that two of his other Australians, Matt Sing and Adam Dykes, could be fit to return at Huddersfield on Sunday. Richard Horne heads the list of those still unavailable.

Another club in need of some good news on the injury front, St Helens, are hoping to have Jon Wilkin back next week. It was feared that the Great Britain back-rower could be set for an extended absence with an injury to his knee. But he is back in training and believes he may be fit to face Hull next Friday.

Saints have half a dozen forwards out of the frame for their game at home to Wakefield on Sunday.

Leeds Metropolitan University, the first student side to reach this stage of the competition, have been pitted against one of the city's most famous sporting sons in the third round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

Leeds Met were given a home tie with Doncaster, coached by the former Wigan, Leeds and Great Britain captain, Ellery Hanley, in yesterday's draw.

The Russian representatives, Lokomotiv Moscow, are at Celtic Crusaders, while the French challengers, Lezignan, are at Sheffield Eagles, who won the trophy 10 years ago. The one-time cup specialists Widnes host the Humberside amateurs Skirlaugh.

The Army have drawn Oldham, and there are two ties between professional clubs, with York facing Halifax and Blackpool playing Featherstone. The draw was made in the living room in Newton-le-Willows of St Helens' fan Keith Hopwood, who won a competition to host the event. Super League clubs come into the competition at the fourth-round stage on the weekend of 20 April and the final is at Wembley on 30 August.

Carnegie Challenge Cup third-round draw: Sheffield Eagles v Lezignan, York City Knights v Halifax, Leeds Metropolitan University v Doncaster, Blackpool v Featherstone Rovers, Wath Brow Hornets v Swinton, Rochdale v York Acorn, London Skolars v Queens, Bank Quay Bulls v Hunslet, British Army v Oldham, Leigh Centurions v Featherstone Lions, Batley v East Hull, Wigan St Pats v Workington, Keighley v Toulouse, Gateshead v Pia, Celtic Crusaders v Lokomotiv Moscow, Mayfield v Barrow, Widnes v Skirlaugh, Oulton Raiders v Dewsbury, Salford v Warrington Wizards, Leigh Miners Rangers v Whitehaven. (Ties take place 8-9 March).
