Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Warrington have re-signed their man of the moment, Graham Appo, on a new two-year contract as they prepare for their first experience of the Super League play-offs.

Appo scored 32 points in the victory over Wakefield on Sunday that put the Wolves into the top six and has been rewarded for his outstanding form in the absence of Lee Briers.

In agreeing a new deal Appo will be followed by his current half-back partner, Matt Wood, although their partnership could be disrupted by Briers' possible return for the play-off game at Wigan on Saturday after breaking his wrist.

The Warrington prop Mark Hilton is appealing today against his three-game suspension for a high tackle in the game at Huddersfield, having already served one game.

The London Broncos' Australian forward, Bill Peden, is out of the play-offs after suffering knee damage in their victory over Huddersfield. He could be replaced for their play-off game at St Helens by Richard Marshall, who is hoping to recover from a broken bone in his foot. St Helens' coach, Ian Millward, expects to have Chris Joynt back, but not his other Great Britain forward, Paul Sculthorpe, or his latest casualty, Keith Mason.

The Bradford captain, Robbie Paul, sees a specialist next week to be told whether his arm has healed sufficiently for him to play against Leeds that weekend.

Super League attendances have hit a new high, averaging 7,955 per match during the regular season.

The two Leigh players sent off in their 26-14 defeat by Salford on Sunday will be able to play in their play-off match against Hull KR this Sunday. Ricky Bibey and Paul Rowley will not have their cases heard until next week, when a suspension will put them out of the National League One Grand Final, should Leigh get there.
