Racing: Urbina wins appeal against 'barging' ban
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Oscar Urbina, suspended for one day for careless riding aboard Sir Gerard in Goodwood's totesport Mile, has had his ban quashed by the HRA disciplinary panel on appeal yesterday.
The jockey was originally found guilty by the Goodwood stewards for barging his way out of the pack after Capable Guest, ridden by John Egan, carried James Fanshawe's charge towards the inside rail.
Yesterday's hearing viewed video recordings of the race and heard evidence from Urbina, who was legally represented.
The panel found that interference had taken place between Capable Guest, Eden Rock, fourth-placed Sir Gerard and Wise Dennis in two separate incidents approaching the furlong marker. However, they ruled that both incidents were accidental - and caused by general bunching - and lifted the suspension, which had initially been pencilled in for 11 August.
Royston Ffrench cashed in on his one ride of the day at Lingfield yesterday when Ishibee powered to victory in the Golf And Gamble Fillies' Selling Stakes.
Ffrench was clearly in no mood to hang about in the six-furlong contest as he booted home Ann Duffield's filly with three lengths in hand from Sepia Print. The 9-4 joint favourite settled well from the outset and showed that seven furlongs would be no trouble in the future.
