Racing: Reshaped plans for Noseda's top fillies
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Plans for Mellow Park and Spinnette, who disappointed in the Oaks at Epsom 10 days ago, have been redrawn by Jeremy Noseda. The Newmarket-based handler, who was on the mark with Just James in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot yesterday, said that Spinnette – who finished last at Epsom – would now drop back to maiden company, while Mellow Park, who finished sixth, is to have a break from racecourse action.
"Spinnette wasn't quite right after the Oaks but she's fine now and there is a mile-and-a-quarter maiden at Newmarket next month which she could go for," Noseda said.
"Mellow Park didn't really handle the track or the soft ground. She has had a bit of a break now and we will try and bring her back in the Lancashire Oaks. If that comes too quickly then we'll take our time, there is no rush.
"She lost her action a bit coming downhill but picked up on the rising ground and didn't run a bad race in the end, although I wouldn't want to take anything away from the first two [Kazzia and Quarter Moon] who were clearly the best on the day. Even if we'd had our ground and everything went right I think they would have been too good for us."
