Racing: Florida learning curve an attraction for Spencer
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jamie Spencer, the No 1 jockey at Ballydoyle, may serve a stint in the United States in the New Year to try to hone his riding skills. The 24-year-old Irishman has had an indifferent first season with Aidan O'Brien and said: "I was in California for a while four years ago, but this time it will be Miami and New York."
He added: "Todd Pletcher trains there for Michael Tabor and all the good jockeys will be there, so it will be interesting watching them." Spencer's next big-race mounts come in Hong Kong early on Sunday morning, when he rides Brian Boru in the Vase, Antonius Pius in the Mile and Powerscourt in the Cup.
Graham Lee, who won the Grand National on Amberleigh House in April, will undergo surgery today to put a plate in his lower right arm broken in a fall from Fields Of Home at Doncaster 12 days ago.
