From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Phil Taylor features an an action-packed second night of the 2014 PDC Darts World Championship as the 16-time champion takes on Jyhan Artut in the first round.

Taylor begins his campaign to regain the crown he lost last year to Michael van Gerwen after seeing his arch-rival struggle to a 3-1 victory on Thursday night against Joe Cullen. Taylor, the bookmakers' favourite at the start of the tournament, has looked to be getting back to his best in the second half of this year, and he'll hope for a clean passage past Artut of Germany.

Last year's beaten finalist Peter 'Snakebite' Wright will be in action before Taylor as he meets Gerwyn Price of Wales, with the eccentric 44-year-old Scot a crowd favourite that is sure to get the Alexandra Palace rocking ahead of Taylor's arrival.

2011 runner-up Andy Hamilton gets the night's action underway with a tricky encounter against Canadian Dave Richardson, while Stuart Kellett wil face the winner of the night's preliminary clash between Kim Vilkanen and Sascha Stein in the final match of the second day.
