Age: 32 Team: Team Sky
Imperious. Was second in the prologue and took the race leader's yellow jersey on stage seven. Enhanced his lead with victory in the stage nine time-trial and survived the mountain attacks with his lead intact before another stunning time-trial win on the penultimate day.

MARK CAVENDISH
Age: 27 Team: Team Sky
Finished with three stage victories, taking his tally to 23 overall, despite playing second fiddle as Team Sky prioritised Wiggins' overall bid. Proved his form was peaking in time for the Olympics.

Age: 27 Team: Team Sky
Played an integral role in Wiggins' success and won stage seven. Debate raged over whether he should be Team Sky's leader, due to his apparently superior climbing ability, but was loyal to Wiggins and finished second on the podium.

DAVID MILLAR
Age: 35 Team: Garmin-Sharp
Experiencing an Indian summer on the bike. Millar made certain all four British Tour riders set to compete in the Olympic road race won a stage with victory on stage 12, his first Tour triumph since returning from a doping ban.

STEVE CUMMINGS
Age: 31 Team: BMC Racing
Was riding in support of defending champion Cadel Evans, whose struggles were reflected across the team. Cummings also crashed heavily and was able to provide only limited support in the mountains, where Team Sky were dominant.
