From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fogg swam well in Lake Balaton to finish in one hour 54 minutes 40.2 seconds with fellow Briton Richard Charlesworth in 27th place in 1hr 56min 33.2sec, three places ahead of David Davies.
Davies, the Olympic silver medallist, led for most of the race but found the final 2km too much and he fell back into the pack of swimmers to finish in 1:58.21.4.
Davies, who has struggled in training this year, will shortly return from Loughborough to the City of Cardiff club to train ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
Team Leader Mark Perry said: "The race was a tough one in a quality field and for us we can take many positives from these results. For Dave to return to action and lead for 8km is very positive. Although he hit a wall, we know where he is now and where he needs to be to gain success."
The race was won by Thomas Lurz of Germany who claimed his fourth European crown over 10km ahead of Valerio Cleri of Italy and Russia's Evgeny Drattsev. Russia's Ekaterina Seliverstova took the gold in the women's race.
