Christine Ohuruogu has good reason to smile. With only 11 days to go until the Olympics, the 400m specialist is in strong form. She triumphed amid the drizzle at the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace, running 50.42sec – her season's best. And flourishing at the Games is the only thing on her mind. "I just wanted to sharpen up for London," said the 28-year-old. "I've done all the work, so I'm happy that I can take something like that away." Seen as Ohuruogu seems to always peak at the right time, the home crowd will expect another stellar performance.
The Bad: Van Persie's blunder
Why do you want to leave Arsenal, RVP? The Gunners are winning trophies now – well, they lifted one at the weekend. Arsenal – whose manager Arsène Wenger is unhappy with the Dutchman's negative view of the club – lifted the Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup at Southampton on Saturday after seeing off the combined might of the Saints and Anderlecht. Van Persie, who has numerous clubs on red alert following his statement which amounted to a farewell, is probably regretting his decision this minute...
The Odd: Seeing double Dembeles
Fulham yesterday signed 16-year-old Moussa Dembélé from Paris Saint-Germain. Yes, that's right, another Moussa Dembélé. The forward is highly rated, having collected 13 caps for France U-16s, but will have his work cut out living up to his Belgian namesake, who signed from AZ Alkmaar for £5m. Fulham have a habit of this. Collins John and John Collins once played for them. So did Steven Davis, Simon Davies and Sean Davis.
