Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Good: Harrison's comeback

Redemption always tastes sweet and Scott Harrison certainly took a step towards atoning for his myriad misdemeanours on Friday evening. The former WBO featherweight boxing champion, who had run into problems with drink, drugs and the law, stepped into the ring for the first time in over six years and beat teenager Gyorgy Mizsei in Glasgow's Kelvin Hall. After the bout, he radiated self-belief: "According to the papers, I'm at death's door, I'm going to die early," said Harrison. "But throughout my suspension I've always kept myself in condition."

The Bad: Shattered relay dreams

There will be as many shattered Olympic dreams as heartwarming stories leading up to the London Games. So many months of preparation for numerous athletes have turned to despair. So it proved for the British women's 4x100m relay team after they were disqualified in the European Championships semi-finals in Helsinki. Hayley Jones was adjudged to have left her lane in the third sector of the semi-final, which dropped the team two places to 17th in the world rankings and outside the top 16 which make up the Olympic event.

The Odd: Elokobi's fitness race

Twitter has brought fans closer to footballers. Now it's YouTube. After Owen Hargreaves used it to put himself in the shop window, Wolves' injury-prone George Elokobi has followed suit with a video to show he is getting in shape for the new season. "I'm just gonna do a bit of sit-ups to keep on top of my rehab," he says on it. "So when I get back to pre-season nothing will stop me getting back to full fitness."
