Rachel Joyce finished second in the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii on Sunday, just over six minutes ahead of fellow Briton Liz Blatchford, who was third.
Mirinda Carfrae of Australia won the event, which comprises a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a marathon, in a time of eight hours, 52 minutes and 14 seconds. Joyce’s time was 8:57.28. Defending champion Leanda Cave of Britain was 13th. Joyce said: “I gave it my all and when you do that you can’t ask for any more.”
