England made it two wins out of two at the World Cup in New Delhi when they came from behind to beat South Africa 6-4 yesterday. Marvin Harper opened the scoring for South Africa after 10 minutes, but Richard Mantell levelled with the first of his two penalty corner goals four minutes later, and England were in front in the 23rd minute when Rob Moore found the net.
South Africa were lucky to equalise two minutes later when Lloyd Norris-Jones' wayward cross was turned into the net by the unfortunate Mantell. But where the first half went back and forth, England took control after the break.
Ashley Jackson made it 3-2 in the 43rd minute, poking home after a great move involving debutant Dan Fox and captain Barry Middleton. They then hit twice in as many minutes, Nick Catlin scoring in the 50th minute before setting up Iain Mackay. Harper got one back two minutes later, but Mantell made sure of the win with his 45th England goal. Thornton McDade got a late consolation for South Africa.
