British showjumping star John Whitaker will be sidelined for several weeks after breaking his ankle in a fall. Whitaker, 54, was hurt during a show in Holland, falling from his 12-year-old stallion Peppermill. He underwent surgery on two fractured bones.

Whitaker, whose horse was uninjured, will now miss next month's lucrative Global Champions' Tour finale in Doha as he recovers at home in Huddersfield.
