Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The man who masterminded Australia's road-race team at the 2012 London Olympics quit yesterday as the net widened on Lance Armstrong's former drug cronies.
Matt White, who rode with Armstrong at US Postal, admitted he took drugs at the team which has been at the centre of the Usada investigation. White resigned from his job as sports director of the Orica-Greenedge team and as co-ordinator of Cycling Australia's men's road-racing programme.
"I am sad to say that I was part of a team where doping formed part of the team's strategy and I, too, was involved in that," said White, referring to his time at Postal. His resignation comes 24 hours after Armstrong's former team manager, Johan Bruyneel, quit as general manager with Radioshack.
White said: "I apologise to my fans, media, family and friends who trusted me, and also to other athletes in my era that consciously chose not to dope."
Another former Armstrong team-mate, Phil Anderson, said he now believed the Texan was guilty despite previously backing him.
