Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Manny Pacquiao, who will defend his WBO welterweight title against Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas tonight, has admitted that the fight the world wants to see would be him against Floyd Mayweather.
The Filipino, speaking to the BBC, said: "That's what the fans want to see and even my kids request me to fight him before I retire."
Pacquiao was due to fight the American in 2010, but the bout was called off after Mayweather's camp demanded that Pacquiao took a blood test in the 30 days prior to the fight, and Pacquiao's camp refused.
Yesterday, Pacquiao said: "Absolutely, I'm excited about that fight happening. The problem is not on our side, it's on his side. Some other time we will discuss it again and hopefully it will happen."
Mayweather has won world titles at five weights and he and Pacquiao are considered the best pound for pound boxers in the world. Pacquiao said he was not under-estimating Bradley, who is unbeaten.
"I'm focused on the Bradley fight," he said, "making people happy with a satisfying performance."
