London bid reaches £6m sponsorship milestone
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

More than 25 companies are backing London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games. EDF Energy, one of the UK's largest energy providers, is the bid's first Premier Partner, the leading category of corporate support. British Airways and British Telecom have also pledged support. Backing is also being provided by Clifford Chance, Ashurst, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Canary Wharf London, where London 2012 has its headquarters.
With the promise of commercial opportunities for the marketing and development of the Olympic brand, there has also been support from Microsoft, the Hilton Group, Avis, and McKinsey & Company. British Airways London Eye, Berwin Leighton Paisner and Radisson Edwardian will also contribute to the Bid campaign as Champion Partners.
It is estimated that London 2012's corporate partners and supporters will contribute up to £10m to the bid. This includes the £1m donation from the Royal Mail announced last year.
The television presenter Katy Hill attended the central London corporate support announcement and helped to unveil a Leap Counter, which registers support for the bid by recording the number of people who "leap" or pass through the life-size measuring counter.
