From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sheffield's chances of winning the Challenge Cup for the fourth successive year are hanging by a thread after the 3-1 home defeat to London on Saturday night. London's Vezio Sacratini and Sheffield's Scott Allison traded powerplay goals before Maurizio Mansi put London ahead with three minutes left. The Steelers then had Peter LeBoutillier ejected, and Mike Barrie sealed the Knights' win 44 seconds from time.

Nottingham joined Ayr in second place after a 4-2 victory over Manchester at the National Ice Centre. Patrik Wallenberg and Lee Jinman put Panthers 2-0 up and Mark Bultje replied before the hosts had Christian Sjogren ejected for cross-checking.

Barry Nieckar and Kris Miller then traded goals, with Steve Moria sealing the Panthers' fifth win in six games against the Storm this season.
